Haramain High Speed Train Experience - Madinah to Makkah

Alhamdullilah, Alhamdullilah, Alhamdullilah....On Nov 2018, I experienced the haramain high speed train from Madinah to Makkah, I did a Morning-Evening return journey. In the post below, I am going to cover a few points that might help people visiting.

1. Booking of the ticket can be done online, I think they make tickets available for booking online some 30 or 40 days in advance. Only limited seats are up for grabs online, rest I think are sold at the station. So to book, do it online or have someone do it for you locally (too many of us don't have access to that facility). I booked online.

2. 2018 Info: Train runs 4 trips a day and only 4 days a week (Thu, Fri, Sat and Sun) Train Schedule
Update 2024: Frequency has been increased!! Check the latest schedule (link given above)
3. There are some 8 Economy Coaches and 2 Business Coaches.

4. Train is new, clean & comfortable.

5. There is a cafeteria on the train.

6. In Makkah, the train station is around 8KM from Haram https://goo.gl/maps/VqYQufzrUJv , taxi time appx 20 mins. There is a shuttle bus service called QAID which leaves from Haram and takes you to the station for 3 SAR. The shuttle stand in Makkah is located here: https://goo.gl/maps/Y5tiPyFXiBR2 its near Sheraton Makkah Jabal Al Kaabah. The walk to the shuttle station can be tough, you will have to walk uphill, so plan accordingly.

Update: Hopefully by 2025 they will open up access to Haram from Hotel Anjum. Taking taxi is easier and can only cost tops 20 SAR.

7. In Madinah, the train station is around 10KM from Prophet's (PBUH) mosque https://goo.gl/maps/2H6sm9Vok2S2 , taxi time appx 20mins, There is a shuttle bus service called MAALEM (that's from the Madinah Authority) and charges 5SR. I am unsure of the pickup point near Haram but looks to be here: https://goo.gl/maps/RfZ7sxpBCHq

8. If you are traveling from Madinah to Makkah the Meeqat is 3 mins after you board the train. So you can do Umrah intention then. It will be announced in the train as Meeqat is approaching.

9. You are allowed to carry one luggage bag and one carry on. Caution: If you have more luggage better check with the station in advance.

10. Be at the station atleast 15 mins before departure.

If you have any questions, please comment, I will try and respond to best of my knowledge.

    1. Sorry don't have a schedule, These services are usually along the train timings, so expect 2 hrs to till 30 mins before train departure time. If you get your hands on a bus schedule, please notify me so that I can publish here. And YES they are two way services from Haram to Station.

    2. I took my last trip during Nov of 2018, so latest info I don't have. But what I learnt from some research is that the Jeddah Airport does have a station but its not operational yet, the station that is in use currently is the Jeddah Train Station at Al-Sulaimaniya.

    1. When you go for Umrah from Madinah, By Road: there is a meeqat mosque, where are all the buses and taxis stop, By Train: They will announce appx 3 mins after departure. Better to change into Ihram at your hotel and do neeyah (intention) at the Meeqat point.

  6. WaLaiKumAsSalaam,

You can wear Ihram clothes at the hotel in Madinah and then go to Meeqat and do Neeyah of Umrah, or you can change in Meeqat as well.

To go to Makkah, you have Bus, Train and Taxi's. Buses are the best and easiest option. All buses to Makkah will stop at Meeqat.
